Tax Senior Manager, Principal

This is a senior leadership role that involves managing the office tax practice and driving development initiatives. This position requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in public accounting, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record in client relationship management and business growth. Strong technical acumen a bonus. 

Key Responsibilities:

1.    Leadership and Management:

  • Oversee the tax department operations, ensuring high-quality service delivery and adherence to firm standards and regulatory requirements. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

  • Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and workflow to maximize efficiency and profitability.

2.    Client Service and Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact.

  • Provide expert guidance and innovative solutions to address client needs in tax and business advisory services.

  • Ensure client satisfaction and retention through exceptional service delivery and proactive communication.

3.    Technical Expertise:

  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in tax.

  • Provide technical expertise and oversight on complex tax engagements or tax planning and compliance.

  • Review and approve tax returns, and other deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance.

4.    Business Development:

  • While there is already a substantial amount of business in this office, this position would require someone to network within the community and develop new business.

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, through networking, lead generation, and proposal development.

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create and implement effective marketing campaigns.

  • Constantly look for selling opportunities within our client base.

5.    Strategic Planning:

  • Contribute to the firm's strategic planning and decision-making processes.

  • Identify opportunities for growth and improvement within the tax department and the broader firm.

  • Participate in firm leadership meetings and initiatives, providing input and support for overall firm goals and objectives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in public accounting, with a focus on tax
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a professional services firm
  • Strong technical knowledge and expertise in tax standards, regulations, and best practices
  • Excellent client service and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated success in business development and strategic growth initiatives
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Competent in multi-tasking
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff
Working Conditions
  • Full-time position based in the Sandusky office with hybrid option available.
  • Occasional travel to client sites and other Barnes Wendling offices as required.
  • Flexible working hours to meet client needs and deadlines.
  • Overtime during busy season is expected.
